1993 Baileys celebrate 50th Anniversary - Sept. 19

Ann Bailey taught reading at East Clinton Schools from 1977 to 1991.  In 1993, she and her husband, Everett, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Ann passed away in 2011; Everett in 2003.  Read more about them in the following clipping which is (mostly) transcribed below.

Baileys to renew wedding vows on 50th anniversary

Georgia Ann Gabbert Bailey and Everett Lafayette Bailey of Wilmington will renew their wedding vows on Sept. 19, 1993, at the Butlerville United Methodist Church in Butlerville, on Rt. 143, 20 miles southwest of Wilmington, during the 10:30 a.m. service.  The couple requests no gifts other than the presence of their family and friends joining their celebration.

Everett Bailey married Ann Gabbert on Sept. 19. 1943.  The couple was married by Rev. Hoke Dickinson in Portsmouth.

Mr. Bailey opened, managed, or owned numerous grocery stores throughout Centerville, Leesburg and Blanchester, finding himself in the general offices of the Kroger Co. in Cincinnati for 13 years where he worked until his retirement in 1991.  In 1980 he was licensed as a local pastor by the Methodist Church and given a charge at Butlerville, where he has pastored since.

Mrs. Bailey was co-owner of the Leesburg Supermarket and enrolled at Chatfield College in 1972, later completing her bachelor's degree in elementary education at Wilmington College and her master's degree at Xavier University in Cincinnati, enabling her to teach reading at East Clinton Schools for 14 years.  She also retired in 1991.

Since their "retirement" Mr. and Mrs. Bailey have filled their time with trips to Europe and Israel; church work; hospital visitation; and the grandparenting of eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

    I remember her. I believe she also taught kids with special needs at the New Vienna school. If I'm not mistaken she also had an interest in skeletal structures of different kinds of animals, etc.--may sound odd but I think it was a hobby she enjoyed or something like that

    I think her classroom was up by Mrs. Walker's and Mr. Murphy's classrooms.....if this is the same "Mrs. Bailey" I'm thinking of...?

    Yes, Link, I think you are right. Someone else commented via email that she was kind of "wild and crazy" and before teaching worked with her husband in the grocery business where she was a whirlwind of energy. I only met her once when she came to Arizona after her husband died. She and Everett were very good friends of my parents.

    Mr. and Mrs. Bailey were two special people and they will hold a place in my hart. Mrs. Bailey was my teacher and she went above and beyond to get through to me and others. I feel blessed to have spent time with Mr.. and Mrs. Bailey and I will not forget there kindness.
