Some information about the class of 1916:

Harry S. Rowe is mentioned in the Wilmington College news of the class of 1915 [Yes,  this is the year before he graduated from New Vienna, but that's what the Wilmington College Alumni news of 1957 states.]  The 1957 W.C. Alumni news goes on to report the passing of Harry, a retired farmer, born in August 1896 near New Vienna and survived by his widow, Elba McKay Rowe, and one sister.  The Ohio Educational Monthly (1916) reports that Harry Rowe was one of five recipients in southwest Ohio to receive a four-year scholarship to the College of Agriculture.

Ralph Carey, born June 1, 1898 married Elizabeth Ellen Hogsett.  His sister Bernice Carey Dunlap, born in 1891, was the mother of Eleanor McKibben.

Minnie West married Glenn Southerland (NV'1917).  Glenn and his father-in-law, Benson West, went into the Grain mill business together on Church Street.

Here's a picture of Ralph, his mother and their Careytown home in a 1937 clipping.

  1. Le Roy Cade, class of 1916 was my great-uncle. I met him for the first time when I was in 6th grade at his home in Lynchburg, Ohio. He was married to Mary and they did not have children. He died when I was in 8th grade and my family attended his funeral. He and Mary are buried in Lynchburg. Le Roy was a dentist and Mary a school teacher, both in Lynchburg. Le Roy was the son of Thomas Cade, a barber in New Vienna and Martha (Custas) not certain of the spelling of her name. His brothers were Wendall Cade, and Elsworth Cade, who was my grandfather.

  2. Peter, thanks for your comment. This makes a great addition to the info above. I show Le Roy's mother's name as Cora Belle Crawford 1866-1929 according to the 1910 & 1920 census. They are both buried in Martinsville according to the Cemetery Records of Clinton County. There was a Martha Custis (1862-?) in New Vienna who married Luther Hildebrant. Do you have any additional information about your great-grandmother?

Also I have info (though not much) that LeRoy, Wendall & Ellsworth had three sisters, Bessie (who died as a child, Myrtle & Edna.
